COVID-19 Update: Queen Elizabeth Hospital!
F.R.O.M. has been working in partnership with the Chira Fund [https://www.chirafund.org] and the WASHTED Centre at the University of Malawi [http://www.washted.mw] on initiatives at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
In Malawi people stay at the hospital to look after sick relatives. These guardians were at high risk of catching COVID-19 due to cramped communal conditions and visiting the hospital. A hygiene education programme put in place disinfection procedures and provided masks, soap and hygiene facilities for the hundreds of guardians passing through the hospital. There was also additional support of soap and materials for the wards in the hospital.
This is an on-going programme with WASHTED staff continuing to volunteer and supervise the hygiene education. Most recently this has included renovating the toilets on site!
