COVID-19 Update – Schools!
Working with the WASHTED team [http://www.washted.mw], FROM supported COVID-19 training for teachers from across Chikwawa District to ensure that children were practicing effective hand washing in schools. Over the last 12 months the team have trained and supported 172 schools in total and they now continue to carry out visits and provide support. COVID-19 Update: Queen Elizabeth Hospital!
F.R.O.M. has been working in partnership with the Chira Fund [https://www.chirafund.org] and the WASHTED Centre at the University of Malawi [http://www.washted.mw] on initiatives at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. In Malawi people stay at the hospital to look after sick relatives. These guardians were at high risk of catching COVID-19 due to cramped communal conditions and visiting the hospital. A hygiene education programme put in place disinfection procedures and provided masks, soap and hygiene facilities for the hundreds of guardians passing through the hospital. There was also additional support of soap and materials for the wards in the hospital. This is an on-going programme with WASHTED staff continuing to volunteer and supervise the hygiene education. Most recently this has included renovating the toilets on site! 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲!
F.R.O.M are delighted to see girls returning to the hostel at Mfera School after COVID school closures ended. We are really proud of this fantastic hostel, which is now being supplied with running water! We are still supporting 10 girls to stay in the hostel and receive daily meals and a good education. The hostel enables them to be safe and secure, so they are able to pursue their studies! 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 Update!
